"THE CLAIRE SHOW" - EXHIBITION

Claire Anderson is a conceptual artist who specializes in, but is not limited to glass. She creates interdisciplinary sculptures and installations that explore a variety of interwoven themes including the undulating wave of societal female roles and the unbalanced power structures created by humans throughout history.
More specifically, her most current series explores intimate partner abuse, addiction, trauma and vulnerability all told from the lense of lived experiences.
Claire Anderson uses the symbolism of everyday objects (pillows, wine glass) to convey emotions, feelings and traumatic experiences while carrying us in a delicate and poetic universe.
This exhibition is inspired by the artist’s personal experience, but the themes are universal: addiction, the violence that the other makes us suffer, the violence that we inflict on ourselves-even that which a society feeds against a part of its population... It is difficult not to feel challenged by the accuracy with which Claire Anderson treats the subject.
Artist's Note :
These works have been a process of catharsis for me. They are centered around a traumatic incident that occured with my ex husband and then evolved into an exploration of the years that lead up to said experience. They are representative of a process of acknowledging feelings of deep denial, shame and guilt followed by forgiveness and learning. I want to share this journey because speaking my truth, despite all of the anxieties and fear, has led me to growth and the support of a strong community. Moving forward I want to keep telling the stories that we keep inside.
Curator's Note:
Through the poetry of her work, Claire Anderson manages to make us glimpse the violence of a toxic intimate relationship, while at the same time inviting us to follow her path towards reconstruction. I was personally moved by the contrast between the delicacy of the glass and the materials used and the violence of the subject addressed by the artist.
What fascinates me the most about Claire Anderson’s work is that she deals with some of the darkest subjects of our humanity while conveying a message of hope.
Indeed, the works speak of traumatic events but they are also the symbol of a powerful and majestic construction.
In this exhibition, the trauma lived in the shadows becomes a work of art exposed in the light, the dark past becomes the bright future, the ugly becomes the beautiful... And that may be what most affects my sensitive soul.
